Setting up BBC BASIC to access The Gongpit

There is a program included in the "examples" folder of the BBC BASIC Android and iOS apps called "telstar.bbc" for connecting to viewdata BBSes like The Gongpit. Unfortunately, being brand new, The Gongpit is not currently included in their pre-configured list of servers. Hopefully, this may change one day, but until it does, here's how to edit "telstar.bbc" to add our server details. This is Android-centric, as I don't have an Apple device, but I understand the process is similar on an iPhone.

• Install BBC BASIC 1.44a or newer from the Google Play store or Apple Store.
• Run it.
• It'll default to the examples program folder.
• Click on the "general f" category.
• Scroll down to "telstar.bbc" and long press it.
• Select "Copy"
• Click on the @usr$ folder, and long press in there to pop up the menu.
• Select "Paste" and then "Rename" to rename it something like "gongpit.bbc"
• Long press your new program entry and select "Edit"
• Scroll down to line 13 (the first DATA statement)
• Change it from DATA "Telstar (CURRER)", "glasstty.com", "6502" to DATA "The Gongpit", "bbs.gongpit.com", "2323"
• Press the Back button and hit "Yes" when asked if you want to save changes.
• That's it. You can now click the @usr$ folder and click gongpit.bbc to connect.
